Shower Thoughts //

What goes around, comes around //
Today, it's the day for the Idea Guy
(Sam Altman) //
A little discomfort never hurt - it's a signal that you're challenging yourself. Too comfortable? You're probably not growing //
Recently, an Amazon VP shared with us (slightly paraphrased for memory):
"If you're using ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc. to research, summarize, rewrite, you're in 2023.
If you're using AI to create something like an image, video, you're in 2024.
If you're using agents, you're in 2025." //
Careers are rarely linear. Generally, they're a maze //
Most plans don't work out. No one has it all figured out. That's the reality //
Within a team, you already have a shared vision. It's your boss' priority. Instead of aligning internally, invest time on aligning that shared vision with peers, partners //
Exploring other disciplines enhances your own //
What really is a tech company now - aren't most modern companies tech? The same questions we will potentially be asking for AI very very soon //
Bureaucracy eats revolutions for breakfast (Elon Musk) //
Some things just feel less like a job and more like a calling. Cherish those, it's rare to come by //
Software is eating the world >> AI is eating the world //
Not all great communicators are great operators. It's the era of the doers, more than the thinkers //
The power to dream and see it through. That's a superpower //
You can't hire smart people and then tell them how to think. They'll get frustrated //
We’re cutting aid and fudging poverty stats, all while fueling conflicts that only increase the need for assistance. The world can do better //
All you need to do to get ahead of 90% of the population - Actually do what you say you will do //
Increasingly, entrepreneurs are chasing wealth creation vs. value creation. Whatever happened to creating an impact and building a legacy with the company you found //
Spending money to be happy is really hard, if you're already happy //
The future belongs to doers. Pedigree schools, companies, etc. are slowly losing importance in today's world //
Bureaucracies make everyone feel productive while doing very little useful work//
Nothing like a relaxed day at your parent's house with zero responsibility //
A good teacher can shape your love for experiences. We need more of these invested teachers //
We overthink things too much. Perhaps William Goldman was right. Nobody knows anything... Every time out it's a guess and, if you're lucky, an educated one //
A big hug by your 3 year old kid after a stressful day of work. These are reasons to have a child that no excel will surface //
AI imposter syndrome is a real thing now. Everyone is trying to figure out how to upskill themselves. But everything is still early stage. Key is to be patient //
Company values are those that force employees to make trade-offs repeatedly: perfect product (like Apple) or an experimentation led mindset (like Meta). Else, values is just another writing on the wall //

Hi, I’m Jinal. I enjoy working on high impact problems and bringing ideas to life, from early days in my career in  social impact  addressing child marriage and building toilets in rural India to more recently as a program manager at Amazon. I have always loved learning - did my undergrad in Econ + Stats from St Xavier's Mumbai before going on to do my MBA from Indian School of Business.   Apart from work, I enjoy reading/writing about businesses, love a great cup of coffee and spending time with my 4-year-old daughter.

You can connect with me on Linkedin, I swear I respond //

Or check out my podcast here. It's called Disruption Diaries and I speak with my friend, Shantanu, on businesses that shape our daily world //
